Megabit 27 | April 5
On መጋቢት 27, or April 5th, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates the original crucifixion of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On this day, we remember that Christ gave His life for our salvation. Jesus Christ gave up his body and blood for our sins, to save us from all evil. His death also crushed Satan, removing all of his power and giving us the power to defeat Satan.
The Cross symbolizes our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ's love and mercy, highlighting his forgiveness. Therefore, we must always remember that through His death, he rescued all mankind.
Never shall we forget the value of our life, as it is the life Christ gave us upon the Cross.
Megabit 29 | April 7
On መጋቢት 29 (April 7th), the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church commemorates the conception of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This day marks the moment when the Archangel Saint Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary with a divine message. He greeted her with reverence, saying, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!", and revealed that she would conceive and bear a son named Jesus. This child would be called the Son of the Highest and would reign on the throne of David forever.
Troubled and questioning how this could be since she had not known a man, Mary was told by the angel that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and the power of the Most High would overshadow her. As a sign, Saint Gabriel shared that her elderly relative Elizabeth had also conceived, proving that nothing is impossible with God.
In faithful obedience, Saint Mary humbly responded, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." At that moment, the Son, the eternal Word of God, took flesh in her womb
—a perfect incarnation united with His divine nature. This miraculous event, beyond human understanding, marks the beginning of humanity's salvation and is celebrated as the first of all Christian feasts.
"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house Of David. The virgin's name was Mary."
Luke 1:26
